The British animated comedy drama ‘Animal Farm,’ with a running time of 72 mins was released in New York on 29 December 1954. The movie ‘Animal Farm,’ directed by John Halas & Joy Batchelor, was adapted from George Orwell’s original novel ‘Animal Farm.’ The movie is a child’s movie but has deep meanings and messages. This movie shows several themes. However, the most important ones are corruption and the leadership. The movie is a fable that tells the story of the Russian Revolution and the stalinist era in the Soviet Union. Animal characters are used to represent Russian politicians, workers, and voters. This film began with human-like animal characters, who tried to revolt against their human owner to obtain a better life.
Animal Farm starts with Mr. Jones, a drunken farmer who wasn’t doing his job well. The story begins with a drunken farmer, Mr. Jones, who is not doing a great job. After the talk, the animals rose and kicked their two-legged bosses out to take control of the farm. Being the smartest animal on the farm the pigs became the leaders. Napoleon and Snowball fought over the windmill idea and for leadership. Napoleon, using the propaganda spread by Squealer, expelled Snowball and ruined Snowball’s legacy. Napoleon has finally become dominant Farm leader without Snowball. The farm is protected by nine vicious dog guards. He forces the animals to work hard, but the pigs live a luxurious and happy life. Snowball had the idea of building a windmill to improve the lives of other animals. He decided to build it. Napoleon and his fellow pigs realized one day that they could not satisfy their wants and needs, so they made a deal with their two legged enemies. A farmer named Fredrick, along with his friends, attacked the farm. The animals protected their farm. However, their windmill got destroyed. Boxer the noble workhorse was severely injured after the attack. He was sent to be slaughtered and the other farm animals were lied to. The farm is becoming increasingly unlivable, so the original guiding rules have been replaced by a single rule: “all creatures are equal. But some are more equally equal than others.” This commandment states that all animals are equal. Pigs on two-legs and the only animal educated are now the dominant animals. The pigs were shown to be a crueler and more oppressive leader and government than humans.
It is a great satire on oppressive government policies, like communism. In order to make his point, he used a character who looks like a farmer. The plot was well-crafted and a good representation of real-life events allowed him to interpret the story in an easy-to-understand way. As the tale progresses, there were many problems in the plot, including the animals versus Mr. Jones. Napoleon versus Snowball. Other animals vs. pigs. And the animal farms vs. their neighbors. The story is full of problems, but they all have something in common. They are all expressing tension between those who are exploiting others and those who are being exploited. It also shows the contrast between lofty ideals and ugly realities of socialism. The Old Major introduces the concept that Mr. Jones is not taking care of farm animals well and he also introduces equality to the farm animals. This later develops into “Animalism”, a philosophy considered to be communist. This revolution became a nightmare as time went on because it opened the door for anyone who was intelligent to gain power. Napoleon was able, as a result of this, to lead the Animal Farm.
The film is closely related to current events in Indonesia and around the world. Like in the film, hegemony is used to gain political advantage in Indonesia. It is not uncommon for Indonesia to use Islam as a political tool. Prabowo, the 2019 presidential candidate, was among those who adopted this strategy. His presidential campaign was full of tactics to gain Islamic votes. He raised his Islamic Identity, used Islamic approach, promised to bring Habib Rizieq back (Islamic leader and scholar) after he won, and even used Islamic scholars to influence their supporters. As Squealer spreads false news about Snowball, so too did multiple hoaxes during the Indonesian Presidential Election. Both sides were constantly attacking each other and spreading false information to influence the public’s perception of that candidate.
